The Shalom Doves Wall Hamsa is designed after a pendant from a synagogue lamp that dates back to the first half of the 20th century in Jerusalem. The Hamsa is shaped like an open hand and features two birds on either side of a Star of David. The center of the star contains the Hebrew letter “heh,” which is a shortened version of God’s name and the fifth letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It is used as an amulet to ward off the evil eye and bring good luck.
This particular item is part of the Feuchtwenger collection and was purchased and donated by Baruch and Ruth Rapaport of Geneva.
