Inspired by a Hanukkah lamp from either northern Spain or southern France, circa 1300, this piece stands as a testament to early European design. Crafted primarily from cast bronze, these original lamps were designed for wall or door suspension. Its unique design seamlessly marries Eastern and Western influences: the central rosette is reminiscent of the stained-glass windows adorning European church facades, while the sequence of horseshoe-shaped arches is a hallmark of Muslim architecture. Such an amalgamation of Western and Eastern styles was emblematic of late medieval Spain.
